Castle II

Castle II This assignment was a helpful exercise in brushing up on my Rhino skills. My castle was inspired by Bryan's icebreaker in the first week of this course. I created a Lego castle sitting on top of my notebook. Techniques Loft and boolean difference were the tools that I used to create the more complex shapes in this model. To create the binder rings, I lofted three circles to create a rounded border, then used boolean difference with smaller extruded cylinders to create the indents. I also used boolean difference to create the punches in the binder and the hollow space inside of the Legos. Rendering To create the finished piece, I applied my materials, added textures and adjusted their clarity. I also applied a material to the ground plane from the Rhino library. Lastly, I used a custom environment for reflections, lighting, and background in the render properties. Surface Design Study

Surface Design Study I was interested in creating intersecting forms that could be used as a repeat pattern in my design. It was important to me that this design could be split into sections that would create new combinations of forms when rearranged. This design would be used as a print on a textile or wallpaper. For this project, I took inspiration from the graphic, simple forms in wallpaper/ textile designs like the one on the left . I also looked at colour and form in surface design on commercial products , but ended up creating forms that were less abstracted in my design. This project was the most challenging when I was trying to figure out how the construction geometry of this pattern was going to work. Some feedback from the critique that influenced this design was to simplify even further since the pattern itself is a lot to look at. REVERSE ENGINEERED OBJECT: PROGRESS I

A preview:) I am excited to add some fillets to the middle piece/ comb once I am on the Macs. I think it will make a huge difference, I just haven't risked this on my laptop yet because the laptop will explode. Initially, I started with mapping the comb/ center piece out on paper and quickly realized that I didn't feel like doing that, so I just put everything straight into Rhino. I ended up going with the harmonica after Bryan encouraged me to take it apart and give it a shot. Here it is disassembled-- looks simple enough! Here is the model so far in Rhino. It was a lot of fun but also I lost a bit of progress because my laptop did not save the newest version as a 3dm file </3 It was not too difficult to catch up though, mostly copying the rivets (not pictured) and using boolean difference to get the rivet holes in the reeds (also not pictured) and reed plates again.
